Repeated facial expressions cause the muscles in the face to contract. Over time, this can lead to lines and wrinkles that remain visible even when the face is at rest. This natural process can be sped up by factors such as stress, sun damage, smoking, alcohol consumption, and hormonal changes. When we make a facial expression, signals travel from the brain through the nerves to the muscles, telling them to tighten.

Anti-wrinkle injections work by interrupting the signal between the nerves and the facial muscles, preventing the muscles from contracting and creasing the skin. This treatment can be used across various areas of the face, but it’s most often requested to soften forehead lines, frown lines, and the fine lines around the eyes, often referred to as crow’s feet.

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections usually last between 3 and 6 months. As the treatment wears off, muscle movement slowly returns, causing lines and wrinkles to reappear and require another session. Over time, however, these lines often become less pronounced.

The so-called ‘frozen’ look is usually the result of too much anti-wrinkle product being applied to a single area.
